The TS-101 is the only device in this group that can mirror an external eSATA or USB disk with its existing hard disk as a RAID 1 array. However, the lengthy setup process is something to leave running overnight.
The TurboStation performed well in our big files test, but was below average when reading or writing small files. DVD video streaming was smooth. There are plenty of other features that have great potential but are underdeveloped. It can download files over BitTorrent without the need for a PC, but downloading a 2MB PDF took nearly 30 minutes, while the official BitTorrent application downloaded it instantly.
Music can be streamed to PCs on the same network through a web browser, but can't be organised into playlists. Photos can be viewed over the network, but it isn't possible to search for photos by EXIF tag and neither is it possible to arrange photos into albums.
Until its unique features are made to work better, the TS-101 just looks as if it's bad value with its high cost per gigabyte of £1.27
