First Look: Maxell's MXL-1191 2.4GHz Digital Wireless Headset 5:00PM, Monday 1st September 2008
We've had an early listen to Maxell's forthcoming 2.4GHz Digital Wireless Headset. A USB base station includes a sound card and charging circuitry. This is all pretty standard. Less commonplace is the ease of associating the headset with its base station.

While most wireless speakers, headsets, and mice require you to press buttons in each device to associate them with their transmitter, this headset associates with the USB base station as soon as you plug it in to charge. This spares a lot of awkward fiddling. We also preferred the integrated rechargeable Li-Ion battery to the AAA batteries used by most similar wireless headsets and headphones.

The headset looks a little flimsy, but was remarkably comfortable, with a retro style headband that uses metal sliders to create a secure fit that didn't slip out of position or feel uncomfortably tight even after hours of gaming.

Audio quality was excellent and the transmitter achieved a straight line range of 10m in our tests.
