A bigger image creates a bigger impact, which is why a projector is an essential office tool for getting your message across. With a large, ugly silver-effect plastic body, ViewSonic's PJ755D is not the most visually appealing projector around. Thankfully, no-one will be looking at the projector once you turn it on, as the picture is among the brightest we've seen.

The PJ755D is capable of outputting an exceptional 2,700 lumens, which is enough to create a clearly visible image even in bright conditions. This is perfect for use in rooms where dimming the lights is impossible or unsuitable. Despite all this power it runs remarkably quietly at only 33dB, which is no louder

than your average PC case fan.

The projector has numerous inputs to take full advantage of its capabilities. The DVI input creates a clear and crisp image when run at the projector's native resolution of 1,024x768. The PJ755D can project resolutions of up to 1,600x1,200, although the compression used greatly reduces clarity.

We had to tweak the VGA input to get the best from it, and we noticed some swirling patterns in the bright areas of the screen that we couldn't get rid of. Component video inputs were a pleasant surprise, though, providing a high-quality connection to a DVD player.

Running costs are high; at full power the PJ755D's bulb lasts for only 1,500 hours, and replacement bulbs cost around £350. ViewSonic claims that whisper-mode extends bulb life to a maximum of 4,000 hours, but this comes at the expense of picture brightness.

The remote control is well designed and includes both a laser pointer and mouse controller with scroll wheel. A carry case is provided, but the projector's size and weight mean it's not ideal for use on the road, although moving it between meeting rooms shouldn't be a strain. As an in-office presentation tool for a variety of purposes the PJ755D is a flexible, if potentially expensive, choice.
