4. DELL XPS 12 - £999
For those who really want to splash out but can’t decide between a tablet and a new Windows 8 laptop, the Dell XPS 12 is here to save the day. It’s expensive, but it’s by far our favourite laptop-tablet hybrid to date. Its rotating touchscreen makes using Windows 8 an absolute breeze, and its smooth, sleek design ticks all the right boxes as well. The XPS 12 also has a full HD display, making it perfect for watching films on the go, and it’s got the performance power to match too.
Buy yours direct from Dell.
Switching between tablet and laptop has never been easier.
3. GOOGLE NEXUS 4 - £239
A phone attached to a pricey or lengthy contract isn’t exactly suitable as a Christmas present, unless you plan on paying all the bills as well. Plus, most flagship smartphones cost £400 upwards. The new Google Nexus 4 is an exception though, being both reasonably priced and undeniably brilliant, it’s not quite our favourite Android smartphone but it’s a very close things and for this price SIM-free it’s a brilliant buy for yourself or anyone else.
Unfortunately, it has proved so popular that it’s currently sold out, but hopefully there will be more stock before Christmas, so keep an eye on the Google Play Store.
So good it's sold out, so you’ll have to be vigilant to get one pre-xmas
2. SAMSUNG SERIES 5 ULTRATHIN - £465
Slender laptops are all the rage now, largely thanks to Intel’s Ultrabook branding. Buying someone a hefty laptop for Christmas is a bit mean, but super-thin models can cost the earth. The answer is the Series 5 Ultrathin, which takes Samung’s gorgeous Ultrabook design but uses an AMD processor to keep the costs down.
The result is a gorgeous laptop that only costs £465, plus buy one now and you can upgrade it to Windows 8 for only £15 extra. Pick one up quick from www.laptopsdirect.co.uk.
Expensive looking, but not expensive
1. GOOGLE NEXUS 7 - £159
Getting a family member a book you also want to read yourself is a long-respected gift-buying tactic. Now with multiple user accounts in Android 4.2, you can extend it to the brilliant Google Nexus 7. Finally, a tablet that can be shared by more than one user, with their own apps, email accounts and settings.
Even before the 4.2 update the little Nexus 7 was brilliant. It’s well made, has a great screen and a big selection of apps. At just £159 now for a 16GB version it’s a fantastic Christmas gift.
Our favourite 7in tablet, now with multiple user accounts
