iHome iW3 adds to Airplay wireless speaker family

iHome has announced its latest wireless speaker system, the AirPlay-compatible iW3.
Designed for use with iTunes running on a Windows or Mac system, or with Apple's iOS-based iPad, iPod Touch and iPhone portable devices, the iW3 speaker system connects to an existing 802.11b/g Wi-Fi network and provides streaming capabilities through Apple's AirPlay software standard.
The iW3 includes a USB port which is capable of both charging and streaming audio from a connected iOS device for those who prefer not to use wireless connectivity. An infra-red remote control provides play, pause, track skip and volume control compatible with both iOS devices and iTunes.
Setup, iHome claims, is simple: the iW3 supports one-touch connection to compatible wireless routers and access points, while fine details can be tweaked using a free app available on the iTunes App Store for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch devices.
Internally, the iW3 features a digital processor with support for SRS WOW HD, delivering what is claimed to be a dynamic 3D sound experience from a very small package. Specially designed Reson8 speaker chambers are also designed to boost both treble and bass response, providing clear and impressive audio from a portable package.
UK pricing for the iW3, which is available in black, silver and red finishes, has yet to be confirmed, with iHome launching the device in the US this week for $200 (around £126 excluding taxes.)
