Yamaha announces DivX HD certified player

Yamaha has announced that its latest range of 3D Blu-ray players will come with DivX Plus HD certification for the playback of user-created and downloaded footage.
The BD-S1067 will be the company's first player to feature the certification, which promises full compatibility and top quality when used with DivX-format video files. The company also claims that its latest players will support "universal playback", with Blu-ray, Super Audio CD, DVD Audio, DVD Video, and CD playback supported across the range as standard.
The DivX Plus HD certification also guarantees full compatibility with all previous DivX format along with the latest .MKV format, which combines H.264 video with AAC audio for high-quality downloadable content and has been chosen by several video-on-demand services as the preferred standard.
Shuichi Esaki, AV technology development department manager at Yamaha, claimed in an announcement that "with DivX Plus HD support for MKV video playback, our new [Blu-ray] players will transform how consumers enjoy HD movies and internet video".
While 3D content is supported for playback from Blu-ray discs, it's not yet known if DivX will be adding support for 3D content to its DivX HD format specification by the time Yamaha launches the device.
Although the company has announced that the BD-S1067 will be coming to Europe, with a planned North American launch due some time later, it hasn't confirmed a firm launch date - and pricing information is still nowhere to be seen.
