Microsoft extends support for Office 2004

Microsoft has decided to extend mainstream support for Office 2004 until January 2012.
The company’s Mac Business Unit (MacBU) said that while most users have upgraded to Office 2008, there is a core who rely on Office 2004’s support for Visual Basic applications (VBA).
“The date has been extended to 2012 specifically to ensure continuous cross-platform compatibility for Office 2004 customers reliant on VBA,” said senior product manager Mike Tedesco.
He added that the MacBU is also continuing our policy of supporting Office 2004 and 2008 side-by-side, so users can take advantage of new features while keeping the older version around for documents containing VBA macros.
Tedesco reiterated that Visual Basic support will be restored in the next version of Office for the Mac, which is scheduled for released towards the end of 2010.
