Panasonic launches new triple-sensor camcorders
Posted on 10 Feb 2010 at 12:42
Panasonic has today announced three new camcorder models: the HDC-HS700, HDC-TM700 and HDC-SD700. All three models are largely identical, differing only in the type of storage on offer. The HDC-HS700 has a massive 240GB built-in hard disk and the HDC-TM700 has 32GB of built-in flash memory, and all the models have SD card slots. These slots will take the new SDXC cards, which currently go up to 64GB, though these are prohibitively expensive when compared to the 16GB SDHC cards you can buy for around £20.
The new camcorders all use Panasonic 3MOS sensor system, which uses three CMOS sensors – one each for red, green and blue light. Panasonic has long championed triple-sensor arrays in consumer camcorders, with the technology being standard in professional models.
Each sensor measures 1/4.1in and has 3-megapixels, which should create finely detailed video with natural colours. It records video at a full HD resolution of 1,920x1,080 at up to 50 progressive frames per second. The F1.5 lens should provide excellent low light recording, and there's a 12x optical zoom.
The camcorder market is being squeezed by more and more capable video modes on digital cameras, from compact models up to the latest DSLRs, like Canon's new EOS 550D. Enthusiast models, like the 700-series, do have something extra to offer though. It has a built-in surround sound microphone with a new wind noise cancelling technology. There's also an external mic jack and powered hotshoe for mic and light attachments.
We're looking forward to giving the range a full review in the near future.
