Sanyo launches new Xacti cameras
Posted on 12 Apr 2010 at 10:23
Sanyo has announced a pair of new models in its Xacti range of pocket-sized camcorders, and the specs are pretty impressive.
The Xacti range is a designed to allow both high-resolution video and still imagery to be taken with a single camera, and these latest entries to the selection are no exception: supporting both full HD 1080p video and a whopping 14 megapixel still image option, they should capture the detail no matter what you're shooting.
The first model, the DMX-GH1, will be available in white, red, or blue and features a traditional video camera shape with a screen that flips out from the side. While the device is significantly more compact than many cameras, the design - shaped to fit in the palm of your hand and secured via a knuckle strap - will be familiar to anyone who has used a camcorder before.
The DMX-CG100, however, is slightly more radical: available in white, red, or blue, this camera is shaped rather more like a hand-held digital thermometer and held with the thumb pointing upwards rather than backwards. Sanyo claims that it reduces strain on the wrist and makes it easier to film steady shots, but it's likely to be a matter of personal taste.
Both models take full 1080p HD video in the increasingly popular H.264 format on to an SDHC memory card, and feature a 5x optical zoom which is enhanced by a 12x digital zoom in video mode. Pricing has not been announced for either model.
