Toshiba to launch Camileo BW10 full-HD camcorder
Posted on 31 May 2010 at 13:00
Toshiba has announced the latest addition to its Camileo digital camcorder range, the BW10 - which promises a waterproof body and full HD recording.
Designed to compete directly with Sanyo's recently announced Xacti DMX-CA100, the Camileo BW10 is designed to record a H.264 video stream onto SD, SDHC, or new high-capacity SDXC cards in full 1080p resolution - even in the most extreme of situations.
While it doesn't quite manage to match the Sanyo's waterproof depth rating of 3m, maxing out instead at 2m, the BW10 is still likely to prove tough enough for most users - and Toshiba is quick to point out that the waterproofing also doubles as weatherproofing, making the Camileo BW10 more appealing to the sportsman and outdoor hobbyist.
A 2in LCD monitor is included for live video preview and playback, along with an HDMI port for connecting the Camileo BW10 to your HDTV for quick and easy playback at the full 1080p resolution. The camera also doubles as a 5 megapixel still shooter - although there's no optical zoom present, so buyers will have to make do with a promised 10x digital zoom available in both still and video modes. Face detection functionality is included as standard, as is a LED flash which doubles as a video light during recording
The Camileo BW10 is expected to hit shop shelves some time in June for an estimated £130.
