Audi details new R8 V8, V10 and Spyder models for 2013

Audi has released details regarding its upcoming R8 range, including new looks for the R8 V8 and V10 Coupé and Spider models as well as the incorporation of faster S tronic twin-clutch sports transmission.
In addition to all-LED lighting across all 2013 model year entries, the upgraded R8 range includes all-LED lighting across all models, equipment upgrades to most and a new and more powerful version of the V10 Coupé dubbed the 550PS V10 Plus.
All models benefit from a completely redesigned S tronic sports transmission, replacing the R tronic automated manual gearbox in the previous R8 range, available as an optional upgrade from the standard six-speed manual gearbox. With a three-shaft layout, the S tronic transmission is less than 60 centimetres in length. Its two multi-plate clutches are positioned behind one another - a new performance-enhancing feature, Audi claims - and serve two mutually independent sub-transmissions; gears are shifted directly as the clutches alternately open and close. As a result, gear shifts take place within hundredths of a second and with virtually no interruption to tractive power.
Opting for the S tronic over the standard manual transmission brings other benefits too, Audi claims: using the 7-speed transmission means a reduction in carbon dioxide emissions by up to 22g per kilometre driven, while the V8 and V10 Coupé and V10 Spyder models enjoy a boosted acceleration time to 62mph by three-tenths of a second.
The flagship entry in the new range, the Audi R8 V10 Plus, offers 550PS and peak torque of 540Nm at 6,500rpm, reaching 62mph from a standing start in just 3.5 seconds with S tronic or 3.8 seconds with manual transmission, top speeds of 197mph and 198mph respectively, and fuel economy of 21.9mpg and 19mpg respectively.
Confirmed UK specifications for the R8 V8 models includes 19in five-arm double-spoke wheels with 235/35 tyres at the front and 295/30 tyres at the rear, while the V10 gets 19in ten-spoke Y-design wheels with the same tyres. The R8 V10 Plus, meanwhile, gets an exclusive 19in five-arm double-spoke wheel design.
Pricing for the new range has been confirmed as starting at £91,575 for the R8 V8 4.2 FSI with manual transmission and rises to £127,575 for the range-topping R8 V10 Plus 5.2 FSI with S tronic transmission.
