Saab hires blogger in social media win

A blogger and Saab fan had his dreams come true last week when he revealed that the car manufacturer was hiring him to be part of its social media strategy team.
Steven Wabe founded Saab fan blog Saabs United six years ago simply out of his love for the brand, and watched his fan site grow until it became one of the pre-eminent sources of Saab news on the web.
As the site grew, so did its demands on Wabe's time - and he made the decision to sell the site this year, passing it on to those who can dedicate more time to growing it further. It was around this time that Wabe got an interesting e-mail from Saab's human resources department.
"Saab has hired me," Wabe explained, "to be involved, as part of a global team, in a sustained social media presence that will see Saab presented from an inside view, allowing you access to company events, key people and of course, the cars themselves – in a way that no bigger car company can do."
"I am delighted to welcome Steven to the team here at Saab Automobile," Saab's director of marketing Mårten Wahlstedt claimed in a statement. "Engaging with customers through interactive channels and social media such as Facebook and YouTube is of the utmost importance for us. Social media play a major role in the Saab marketing mix, which is why we are keen to strengthen our expertise in this area."
It's a great success for Wabe, who can now translate his love of the company into a full-time salary, and an interesting venture that proves that increasing numbers of companies are looking towards social media to grow their brands.
