Audi 3.0-litre BiTDI V6 availability confirmed

Audi has confirmed availability of its latest V6 TDI engine for its A6 Saloon, A6 Avant and A7 Sportback vehicles. Claimed to be the most powerful six-cylinder diesel engine ever offered by the company, Audi's latest 3.0-litre V6 TDI promises to output 313PS from 3,900rpm to 4,500rpm with a peak torque of 650Nm at 1,450rpm to 2,800rpm.

When fitted to the A6 Saloon, Audi claims the 3.0-litre V6 can hit 62mph from stationary in just 5.1 seconds and achieves an electronically limited top speed of 155mph while offering fuel economy in the combined cycle of 44.1mpg and carbon dioxide emissions of 169g per kilometre driven.

Designed with a two-stage turbocharger group capable of delivering a maximum boost pressure of up to 3.2 bar, Audi has also considered the engine note: an exhaust-mounted sound actuator gives vehicles fitted with the new engine a soundtrack Audi describes as 'distinctly sporting'.

As with the company's existing TDI engines, the new 3.0-litre V6 includes start/stop and energy recuperation systems along with Audi's thermal management technology for bringing the coolant and oil up to operating temperature as quickly as possible.

In all models, the new engine is coupled with an eight-speed tiptronic transmission driving all four wheels, featuring the standard self-locking centre differential and torque vectoring for improved traction and stability. An optional upgrade is a sport differential, designed to distribute power in continuously variable proportions between the rear wheels for a sharper response.

Available in the SE and S line specification levels of the A6 Saloon, A6 Avant and A7 Sportback now, Audi has confirmed that the engine will also be appearing in the A6 all-road quattro scheduled for release next month.

Prices start at £43,810 on the road for the A6 Saloon 3.0 BiTDI quattro and rise to £53,434 for the A7 3.0 BiTDI quattro.
