SsangYong XIV-2 convertible crossover teased

SsangYong has offered a sneak preview of its new XIV-2 convertible crossover utility concept, due to be formally unveiled at the Geneva International Motor Show next month.

Designed as a follow-on from the XIV-1 concept presented at the IAA International Motor Show in Frankfurt last year, the XIV-2 (eXciting user Interface Vehicle 2) concept is a premium crossover utility vehicle (CUV) designed to offer affordable luxury to the global market.

Blending the characteristics of a robust and powerful sports utility vehicle with the style of an open-top sports coupé, the XIV-2 is an interesting beast - not least of all thanks to its convertible nature.

The roof, SsangYong explains, is a soft-top that opens via a one-touch control system, providing the feeling of 'wind in your hair' normally associated with compact sporting cars. Coupled with its futuristic design, SsangYong explains that it is hoping to attract younger car buyers with the XIV-2 concept.

Full specifications have not yet been revealed, but SsangYong has released measurements that put the XIV-2 concept at 4,166mm long, 1,820mm wide and 1,566mm high with a 2,600mm wheelbase. The company has also confirmed that the XIV-2 will be produced in two versions, offering 1.6-litre diesel or petrol engine choices. Both engines will be fuel efficient and meet Euro VI emissions guidelines, SsangYong claims.

Sadly, the company hasn't yet indicated whether the XIV-2 will be making it to commercial production - although the company's mention of meeting emissions guidelines suggests that a retail model is indeed on the cards.
