Ferrari California update confirmed for Geneva launch

Ferrari has confirmed that it will be showing off its latest revision of the Ferrari California, production of which has already commenced, at the Geneva International Motor Show next month..

Boasting a weight reduction of 30Kg over the outgoing model, the GDI V8 engine in the new Ferrari California promises 490hp of power output with peak torque of 505Nm at 5,000rpm thanks to redesigned exhaust manifolds and tweaked engine mapping. The company also states that it has modified the torque curve to provide higher torque over the engine's increased rev range.

Using cutting-edge aluminium fabrication techniques and construction technologies at the Scaglietti Centre of Excellence, the Ferrari California's chassis has dropped 30Kg of weight without any change to the structural rigidity or performance of the vehicle, the company claims.

As a result of the tweaked engine and lighter chassis, performance has been improved. Ferarri's latest figures show a 0-62mph acceleration time of just 3.8 seconds, while an optional Handling Speciale package provides a more dynamic driving experience through modifications to the suspension set-up to minimise body roll and make the car more responsive to driver inputs.

Reducing the response time of the engine control unit (ECU) by 50 per cent and adding magnetorheological dampers, the package also increases the stiffness of the springs for more precise body control during turns.

For those who like a vehicle to look good as well as perform well, Ferrari has confirmed a more extensive range of colour choices including two-tone finishes, three-layer paint technology and modern reinterpretations of classic colour schemes.

The first deliveries are expected to be made in Europe, but Ferrari is not providing pricing or a firm launch schedule until after the official unveiling at the Geneva Motor Show next month.
