New Audi RS 5 demoed

Audi has confirmed the reintroduction of the RS badge to its A5 Coupé range, in the form of the new-generation RS 5.
Based on the existing A5, the RS 5 swaps out the standard engine for a hand-built naturally aspirated 4.2-litre V8 based heavily on the V10 found in the R8 sports car. High-revving, the engine delivers 450PS at 8,250rpm and offers its peak torque of 430Nm between 4,000 and 6,000rpm. Audi's testing claims that the RS 5 is capable of reaching 62mph from a standing start in 4.5 seconds, and offers a top speed of either 155mph in the standard electronically-limited model or 174mph if the extra-cost speed de-restriction option is chosen.
The engine, which claims fuel economy of 26.9mpg in the combined cycle and carbon dioxide emissions of 246g per kilometre driven, applies its power to the road via permanent all-wheel drive enhanced with a crown-gear centre differential capable of varying the distribution of torque between the front and rear axles up to a 70/30 front split or 85/15 rear split.
As standard, the RS 5 will include a slight revision to the single-frame grille design, sharper and more pronounced bonnet contours, new solid-band wraparound LED daytime running lights and LED rear lights, new look front and rear bumpers and a new 10-spoke design for the 19in alloy wheels. The optional Sport Package, which adds dynamic ride control and dynamic steering capabilities along with larger 20in rotor-design titanium-look alloy wheels, will be available for an additional £2,250.
Internally, the RS 5 benefits from the addition of Bluetooth connectivity, cruise control, DVD-based satellite navigation system and Audi Music Interface iPod connectivity.
Audi has confirmed that the RS 5 will be coming to the UK in April, with prices starting at £58,575 on the road.
