Toyota has officially unveiled the newest entries in its updated Aygo range, the Aygo Fire and Ice.

Both models are designed to offer fans of the original Aygo an updated and more efficient option with prices staying roughly the same. Under the bonnet is a tweaked version of Toyota's 1.0-litre VVT-I petrol engine which reduces carbon dioxide emissions from 105g per kilometre driven to just 99g/km in the manual version, while boosting fuel economy from 61.4mpg in the combined cycle on the outgoing model to 65.7mpg.

The new Aygo models include a front-end treatment which follows Toyota's new design language, echoing some of the features already seen on the new Yaris. The lower section of the car has been given greater emphasis to express a more powerful stance, with a wider front bumper featuring integrated foglights at each corner and a large trapezoidal air intake further enhancing the effect.

The two new models in the 2012 range, the Aygo Fire and Aygo Ice, differ in specifications. The Fire features 14in alloy wheels, front foglights and daytime running lights, rear privacy glass, leather steering wheel and gear knob trim and a rev counter. The Ice, by contrast, features air conditioning, Alcantara and leather trim, a more powerful DAB-ready four-speaker sound system, Bluetooth connectivity and a USB port. Also available are the 2012 versions of the Aygo and Aygo+, with their specifications unchanged from 2011.

Both the Fire and the Ice can be fitted with an optional Xtraprotected Pack, which adds rear parking sensors, mud flaps, carpet mats, a rear bumper protection plate and side protection mouldings to the mix. The Ice, meanwhile, has a Style Pack option which adds rear chrome trim, aluminium scuff plates and a chrome exhaust pipe while the Style Pack Plus features all of the aforementioned along with the 14in alloys seen on the Fire. The Fire itself, meanwhile, can be specified with the same air conditioning system as the Ice, which is also available as an option on the Aygo+ but not on the entry-level Aygo.

Prices start at £8,495 for the entry-level Aygo, while the new Ice starts at £9,895 and the Fire at £9,595. Despite improvements, Toyota claims the new prices represent savings of up to £105 on the Aygo and Aygo+ compared to the previous year's models while the Aygo Ice sees an increase of no more than £40.

The new Aygo Ice and Aygo Fire are available to order now, with the first deliveries expected to start next month.
