Volkswagen launches new 2.0-litre Beetles
Includes special-edition Turbo Black, Turbo Silver models
Volkswagen has officially launched its latest Beetle designs in the UK, updating the brand for the latest model year.
Two distinct models are available at launch, with a choice of 2.0-litre 140PS TDI turbodiesel engine or a 2.0-litre 200PS TSI turbocharged petrol engine - with the latter giving enough oomph for the newly-designed Beetle to complete the 0-62mph sprint in 7.5 seconds with a top speed of 139mpg and the former hitting 62mph from a standing start in 9.5 seconds and featuring a top speed of 123mph.
Both models are available with the choice of six-speed manual or six-speed DSG gearbox. Trim levels for the TDI version are Design or Sport, while the petrol version gets Sport or special-edition Turbo Black and Turbo Silver editions, complete with 'Turbo' decals in the specified colour, matching door mirrors, body-colour door rubbing strip and 19in 'Tornado' alloy wheels.
The mid-range Design trim comes with 17in allow wheels in a choice of two styles, Bluetooth preparation, an RCD 510 DAB CD/radio with multi-device interface, front fog lights, rear Isofix preparation, alarm, manual air conditioning, multifunction leather-wrapped steering wheel and body-coloured door and dashboard panels.
Sport upgrades the specification to include 18in alloy wheels in a choice of styles, tinted glass, cruise control, sports seats, parking sensors, gloss black door mirrors - swapped for silver or black in the Turbo special edition - gloss black dashboard and door panel and a 2Zone electronic climate control system.
Additionally, the petrol Sport adds a four-link rear suspension system, twin chromed exhaust pipes, red brake calipers and a body-coloured rear diffuser to the mix. Optional equipment on all models includes keyless access system, satellite navigation systems, bi-xenon headlights and numerous alloy wheel designs.
The two new Beetles join the 1.2-litre TSI and 1.4-litre TSI models launched earlier this year. While supplies of the original new Beetles were limited at launch, Volkswagen claims to have resolved the issue with all four models available to purchase now.
Pricing for the new models starts at £20,085 on the road for the 2.0-litre TDI Design and rises to £24,505 for the 2.0-litre TSI Turbo Black or Silver. The entry point for the new Beetle range remains the 1.2-litre TSI model at £16,600.
