Nikon announces three new cameras

Nikon has announced a trio of consumer-level digital cameras: The Coolpix S8100, S80, and P7000.
The Coolpix S8100 is designed to offer the maximum performance in low-light conditions thanks to back-side illumination technology on the 12.1 megapixel sensor and a shake-reducing 10x zoom lens, equivalent to 30-300mm on a 35mm camera.
Nikon has also given the S8100 impressive video credentials, with the camera able to shoot full-motion video at up to 1080p resolution for playback on a high-definition TV. The processing power that allows that also means that continuous still shooting is also possible, with speeds of up to 120 frames per second in Sports Continuous mode.
If you don't need a 10x lens, the S80 drops to a 5x wide-angle lens on a slightly higher resolution 14.1 megapixel sensor and swaps the 1080p video mode for a lower resolution 720p mode. Those sacrifices do come with an up-side, however: an ultra-bright 3.5in OLED touch-screen on the rear, hopefully making it easier to control the camera for point-and-shoot photography.
Finally, Nikon has announced the Coolpix P7000, designed to bring the flexibility and power of the company's line of digital SLR cameras to the compact market. Featuring a 10.1 megapixel sensor and a 7.1x wide-angle lens, the P7000 allows full manual control over shooting settings including shutter speed and aperture size. Like a DLSR, the P7000 is also capable of shooting in uncompressed RAW format.
The S80 and P7000 will retail for £329.99 and £489.99 respectively. The S80 will go on sale on 7th October, while the P7000 will be on sale a couple of weeks earlier on 23rd September. A UK release for the S8100 hasn't been announced yet, however.
