Panasonic announces Lumix FP5 and FP7

Panasonic has announced new entries in its Lumix range of digital cameras, the compact FP5 and FP7 ultra-slim models.
Featuring a 14.1 megapixel sensor in the Lumix FP5 and a 16.1 megapixel sensor in the higher-end Lumix FP7, Panasonic has added a raft of features to its latest compact cameras: 720p video mode is included in both models, as well as a Venus Engine VI image processor, which the company claims helps to ensure that pictures come out at their best quality even in more difficult shooting conditions.
The ultra-slim body uses a folded optic design to pack a 4x optical zoom into both cameras with no lens jutting out of the front, while the rear of the FP5 features a 3-inch touch-screen display - slightly outclassed by the impressive 3.5-inch touch-screen on the rear of its bigger brother the FP7.
Both cameras are designed to be operated almost entirely through the touch-screen, featuring the ability to trigger auto-focus and zoom based on touching the display, select the scene mode - including Intelligent Auto, which attempts to optimise camera settings for the conditions - and even trigger the shutter directly from the touch-screen.
The FP7 adds three additional features missing from the FP5: Beauty Retouch for editing of portrait images directly on the camera, Aesthetic Mode for automatically cleaning up skin texture and whitening teeth, and Make-Up Mode for adding eye-shadow or lipstick to subjects.
Both cameras are expected to launch within the next few months, but Panasonic is keeping pricing and precise launch dates a secret until closer to the time.
