Exclusive: Samsung NX Mini camera UK price confirmed

Samsung's selfie-loving NX Mini smart camera will be arriving in the UK from early April onwards, and we have exclusive price details

Samsung’s latest compact system camera is the tiny NX Mini, a 158g body paired with interchangeable lenses and a flip up touchscreen that should make it the perfect companion for anyone that loves snapping selfies. It will be coming to the UK later this year, and we have exclusive price information ahead of the launch.

Using a smaller sensor and lens mount than the existing NX system, the NX Mini is Samsung’s smallest compact system camera to date as well as the slimmest CSC on the market. With a metal body and leather finish, available in a choice of black, white and mint green, it’s certainly a striking camera, which should still slip in a pocket even with a lens attached.

The 3in flip-up screen should be a major selling point for anyone that takes lots of selfie shots, as it can turn 180 degrees to give you a complete view of yourself and your friends before pressing the shutter. You can even take shots hands-free, using the Wink shot mode – when the camera detects a wink it will automatically take a shot after two seconds.

As the NX Mini uses a completely new NX-M mounting system, which has a 2.7x crop factor, Samsung is also launching an entirely new range of lenses alongside the camera itself. Two will be available at launch; a 9-27mm, F3.5-5.6 zoom lens (equivalent to 24-73mm) and a 9mm F3.5 pancake lens (equivalent to 24mm). The third lens will be a fixed 17mm F1.8 lens (equivalent to 45mm), but that won’t be arriving until the summer.

Inside, a 1in, back side illuminated (BSI) CMOS sensor captures 20.5-megapixel stills and records 1080p Full HD video at 30fps. An ISO range of 160-12,800 is extendible to 25,600, while the built-in flash should help with low-light shooting. It can also shoot in burst mode at up to 6fps.

Despite its compact size, the NX Mini also makes room for NFC and Wi-Fi connectivity, for instant sharing and pairing with a smartphone or tablet, as well as remote viewfinder and shutter control.

Samsung has confirmed to Expert Reviews that the NX Mini will be launching in the UK from early April, bundled with a 9mm kit lens for £399.99. The optional 9-27mm lens will cost £199.99, while the 17mm F1.8 lens has yet to receive an official price as it won’t be arriving until later in the year. We’ll hopefully be taking a closer look in April, once we get hold of one to give it a full review.
