Big things in small packages: Nikon launches world's slimmest 10x zoom camera
Posted on 3 Feb 2010 at 15:01
Nikon has announced the world’s slimmest wide angle 10x zoom camera, the Coolpix S8000. This 27.3mm-thick camera will also shoot HD video at 720p with a 30fps frame rate.
The S8000 has a 14.2-megapixel sensor plus a fast start-up time and an autofocus system that Nikon says rivals a DSLR's. The lens has an 35mm equivalent focal length of 30-300mm and can focus on objects just 10mm away, which should make it great for macro shots as well as wide-angle and telephoto.
On the rear is a 3in screen with 921,000 dots, and this should allow you to check your composition and focus accurately before shooting. Users will be able to edit images in camera using the 'Creative Slider' which lets you tweak brightness, saturation and colour.
There are four anti-blur functions, including ISO 3200 sensitivity, lens-shift vibration reduction, advanced motion detection and Nikon's Best Shot Selector. With BSS, the camera will take a maximum of 10 sequential shots and save the sharpest one.
The S8000 will go on sale in the next week or two at around £250 including VAT, and will be available in three colours: Black, Brown and Champagne Silver.
