Kodak launches first capacitive touchscreen camera

Kodak has announced launch of its Slice compact digital camera - and it's an interesting beast featuring a large touchscreen display on the rear.
The Kodak Slice has some pretty impressive specifications such as an internal 5x optical zoom lens with no protruding parts and a 14 megapixel high-resolution sensor, along with the ability to record 720p HD video - but it's the screen that is likely to get people's interest.
Taking up the entirety of the rear, the 3.5 inch 16:9 widescreen display features a capacitive touchscreen layer similar to that found on smartphones, allowing access to the camera's features without the need for buttons or dials.
Although it's Kodak's first touchscreen offering, it's far from an industry first - with rival manufacturer Canon having beaten Kodak to the punch late last year, and other manufacturers before even that - but it's an increasingly popular method of operation, and one which more compact cameras - and even high-end DSLRs - are likely to support in the future.
According to SlashGear, the Slice features 2GB of internal storage along with a microSDHC slot - although no support for full-size SD cards - along with a single USB 2.0 connection for uploading your pictures. As is standard with today's compact digital cameras, the Slice comes with face detection functionality as well as a fully automatic 'Smart Shoot' mode for those that don't want to think too hard about the shot they're taking.
The Kodak Slice is available in the UK now at prices around the £290 mark.
