Sony NEX-5 hits UK shelves

Sony's NEX-5 mirrorless compact lens-switching E-series camera is now available to buy in the UK - and pretty soon you'll be able to make the change without getting rid of your collection of lenses.
The 14.2 megapixel snapper is now available from UK camera retailer Jessops, who will be carrying the camera at £589 for the body along with a bundled 18-55mm kit lens.
The remaining specifications of the camera remain unchanged from those that were leaked back in May: designed to be a bigger brother to the more budget-friendly NEX-3, the Sony NEX-5 offers 1080p video recording, auto HDR mode, a tilting 3in LCD display with live view mode, and light sensitivity between ISO 200 and 12,800.
Although designed to work with Sony's E-series lenses, an adapter is available from Sony to make the NEX series work with existing Sony Alpha lenses - but if your existing camera isn't a Sony, don't throw away your old lenses just yet: DPReview has discovered that Japanese manufacturer Rayqual is to launch a series of adapters for the NEX-3 and NEX-5 which allow Nikon, Canon FD, Pentax, and Leica lenses to be fitted - albeit with the loss of functionality such as auto-focus in some cases.
So far, Rayqual has not confirmed if its lens adapters will be coming to the UK.
