Samsung announces ST80 Wi-Fi camera

Samsung has announced its latest point and shoot camera, the ST80, which features in-built Wi-Fi connectivity.
The ST80 is the company's latest Wi-Fi enabled camera, and builds the wireless networking standard into the body of a 14.2 megapixel compact camera with fairly impressive specifications: a 3x optical zoom lens, a surprisingly large 3in touch-screen on the rear, and a choice of black, white, pink, or blue colour schemes.
With the in-built Wi-Fi enabling direct upload to Facebook, Picasa, PhotoBucket, and similar services, Samsung has thought about how to enhance the quality of pictures taken without needing to connect the camera to a PC for editing: accordingly, the company has equipped the
ST80 with its "Smart Crop" functionality - a system which allows users to crop and straighten images directly on the camera via the touch-screen interface.
As well as the high-resolution still shooting, the ST80 records 720p HD video in H.264 format - and, as with the photographs it takes, the footage can be automatically uploaded to video sharing sites such as YouTube as soon as you are within range of a wireless hot-spot.
Designed to make photography as simple as possible, most of the functionality on the ST80 is automated: Samsung claims that its Smart Auto scene recognition technology is capable of selecting the best settings for a particular shot without user interaction by analysing shot composition and the current shooting environment.
Although UK pricing isn't yet available, the Samsung ST80 is thought to be launching in the US in September at an expected retail price of $249.99 (around £160).
