Pentax launches new cameras

To counter the news that Nikon has announced three new cameras, rival Pentax has launched a trio of its own: the Pentax K-r digital SLR and Optio RS1000 and RZ10 compacts.
The K-r, a follow-up to the company's K-x and K-7 cameras, is described by the company as "mid-level DSLR" featuring a 12.4 megapixel sensor and an impressive ISO range of 100 to 25,600, along with 25-image burst at six frames per second.
In-camera high-dynamic range photography has also had a boost, with a new Night Scene HDR mode designed to bring out the best in low-light conditions without further editing on a PC. As is increasingly common even on lower-end digital SLRs, the K-r will also include 720p video recording.
If an SLR isn't your thing, the Optio RS1000 might be: featuring a 14 megapixel sensor and 4x zoom lens, the main selling point of the
RS1000 is a range of customisable skins allowing the user to alter the look of the camera on a whim.
Finally, the RZ10 is Pentax's latest straight compact camera. Featuring a 10x zoom lens and the same 14 megapixel sensor as the RS1000, the RZ10 is a more straight-laced with no customisable design options.
All three cameras will hit shop shelves in October, with the RRP set at £600 for the K-r body, £120 for the Optio RS1000, and £180 for the Optio RZ10.
