Fujifilm has announced the FinePix F800EXR, a compact digital camera boasting a high-resolution sensor, 20x optical zoom and a Wireless Image Transfer facility for wire-free uploading.

The company's latest entry in the FinePix family, the F800EXR boasts a high-resolution 1/2in 16 megapixel EXR-CMOS sensor specifically developed for improved performance in low-light photography compared to the company's other sensor types. In front of the sensor is an impressive 20x wide-angle zoom lens for impressive telephoto capabilities along with an Intelligent Digital Zoom feature which - Fujifilms claims - can effectively double the zoom capabilities of the camera without the usual drop in quality of a digital zoom function.

The rear of the camera includes a 3in 460K-pixel liquid-crystal display designed for clear viewing even in bright sunlight. This display also provides feedback and access to a selection of in-body photographic filters, which tie in to the F800EXR's main feature: the Wireless Image Transfer system.

Designed for use with smartphones and tablets through a free app - available for both Apple's iOS devices and those running Google's Android operating system - the Wireless Image Transfer system allows images to be instantly uploaded to the smartphone without the need to connect a transfer cable. From there, they can be edited using common applications, sent on through email or uploaded to cloud storage services, and shared through social networking applications.

Official UK pricing for the FinePix F800EXR has yet to be confirmed, with some retailers taking pre-orders for the camera at £299.99 ahead of a planned late-August release date.
