Our Rating
The DC20 is one of the cheapest digital cameras available.
It is also small, light and very easy to use. Camera controls are limited to a power switch, shutter release and an erase button to remove images from memory. However, you can only delete all your images (not singly) unless the camera is connected to a PC.
Although the DC20 can be used in two resolutions, you can only switch between modes via a computer link. Also, the DC20 has neither LCD monitor nor flash, and the lens is of the fixed focus variety. Resolution can be switched between 493x373 pixels, and 320x240 pixels, and the 1Mb non-expandable memory holds eight and 16 of these images respectively.
Batteries are the expensive Lithium CR123A ones commonly used in posh cameras, and these negate some of the savings made on film and processing. They do, however, last longer than those in many digital cameras because of the lack of flash and LCD monitor.
Although the low resolution is rather limiting, the images are clear with reasonable shadow detail and good balance. So, for on-screen use with small images, the DC20 is a highly cost-effective solution.
