Our Rating
To the untrained eye, the Hewlett Packard looks like a traditional film camera.
There's no LCD or TFT preview screen, so you can't review images in the field.
In operation it's little different from a traditional camera. The small LCD info panel is a bit cryptic. For example, three dots next to a picture of a film means it's set to high resolution.
There's a slight delay upon pressing the shutter - no good for snapping sports - and a three-second wait before the next picture.
The image quality is the saving grace. The indoor shot was slightly over-lit by the flash. The outdoor shot was also slightly overexposed but had good definition and colour.
A TWAIN driver, multimedia walkthrough and Microsoft Picture It! software are supplied.
With no preview display, the HP is basic, offering few benefits over a conventional camera plus scanner. But at a street price of £200, it has the best image quality for the money.
