Asus launches new range of combined TV and PC monitors
Posted on 7 Sep 2009 at 17:11
Asus has announced its new T1 series of monitors which are aimed squarely at entertainment addicts.
There are three models in the lineup: 22, 24 and 27in, and all have full HD 1,920x1,080 resolutions. Each has an integrated hybrid TV tuner that can receive both analogue and digital broadcasts.
The displays are ideal if you have other equipment to hook up, as there are a plethora of inputs compared with most PC monitors. They include a pair of HDMI 1.3 ports, plus component, S-video, composite and twin SCART inputs.
Built-in 7W stereo speakers should be considerably better-sounding than most PC monitor speakers, and the inclusion of audio presets suggests that sound isn't an afterthought as with some so-called multifunction displays we've seen. If you want to connect external speakers, there are S/PDIF and stereo phono outputs, plus a headphone mini-jack.
Also, Asus hasn't neglected image processing and boasts of the TVs' 2D/3D comb filter, 3D de-interlacing and 2:3/3:2 pulldown support. As usual with Asus monitors, there's Splendid Video Intelligence technology, which is marketing speak for image presets.
As ever, until we can take a look at a T1 in the flesh, it's impossible to say whether or not you should rush out and buy one. As soon as we get our hands on one and check out the image quality, electronic programme guide and other features, we'll bring you our definitive verdict.
