The N91W might be a cheap monitor, but it outperforms more expensive models.

Hyundai's ImageQuest N91W is one of the least expensive widescreen monitors we've seen, priced at just £156. As such, we weren't expecting much in the way of features or image quality, but we were pleasantly surprised.

It's a 19in widescreen and in common with other monitors of this size, it has a native resolution of 1440 x 900. The N91W has a contrast ratio of 800:1. That's very good for a monitor of this price - so good, in fact that we were worried the Hyundai wouldn't live up to it. Fortunately, it did - whites were crisp and clean, and even in very dark areas the monitor accurately rendered fine detail.

The N91W has a DVI connector and two VGA connectors. This could be handy for connecting the monitor to three PCs, but we couldn't think of any reason why anyone would want to. Still, it was nice of Hyundai to throw in the extra connector and it might just come in handy if you wanted to connect a PC and an Xbox 360 without having to swap cables around.

Splashing a solid colour across the screen revealed the only defect we could find - a very slight darkening in the top corners suggesting that the illumination isn't as even as it could be. This is barely perceptible, however.

The build quality is a tiny bit suspect as the screen is a little wobbly on its stand. The stand isn't height adjustable, although there's a good amount of tilt. The screen height only reaches 95mm, a little lower than most other monitors in this size category, so taller users may need to invest in a monitor stand to position it correctly.

The monitor gives a bright image with rich, but not oversaturated, colours. The response time of 5ms suggests that this monitor will handle fast moving images well, and in our tests it did so without any blurring or smearing.
