Canon announces EOS 60D DSLR

Canon has announced its latest EOS-series digital SLR camera, the EOS 60D, which will replace the EOS 50D.
Featuring a high-resolution 18 megapixel sensor, and full compatibility with the existing range of lenses, the design isn't as radical a departure from the norm as Sony's latest translucent lens Alphas but still manages to bring some fresh features to the table.
First is support for full 1080p high-definition video recording, which is becoming a near-standard feature on high-end DSLR cameras - and allows photographers the flexibility to record high-quality video using the same lenses and equipment that they're used to. A wide-angle 3in LCD on the rear of the camera supports live preview to provide photographers with an alternative to the viewfinder for framing difficult shots.
The EOS 60D features a standard ISO sensitivity of 100-6,400 - although this is adjustable in-body to an expanded 12,800 - meaning that high-quality low-light photography shouldn't be too much of a challenge. The iFCL metering system - first seen in the company's EOS 7D semi-pro camera - also makes an appearance.
Interestingly, Canon has included an in-camera editing function for RAW-format shots - allowing brightness, contrast, white balance, and distortion from wide-angle lenses to be corrected for even before the shots are transferred to a PC. It's even possible to re-save the images on the camera's memory card as JPEG once retouching has been finished.
Canon has said the camera will go on sale in September at a suggested retail price of £1,099 inc VAT. We expect street prices to be much lower than that however, as the EOS 7D is already available for not much more than the 60D's SRP.
