Samsung announces the NX5, a cheaper NX system camera

Korean electronics behemoth Samsung has unveiled the NX5, which is a cut-down version of the impressive NX10.
We enjoyed reviewing the NX10 and we found that it was very competitively priced against alternatives like the Panasonic Lumix G1 and Olympus E-P1, but it didn’t win us over completely.
Samsung’s decision to release a cheaper version might do enough to change that though and it will certainly be of interest to those who felt the NX10 was still too expensive, despite being cheaper than its competitors.
The company has switched the 3in AMOLED screen for a regular LCD and the electronic viewfinder has a lower resolution. The 14.6 megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor remains the same however, and supports the same ISO range of 100 to 3200 thanks to the DRIMe II Pro engine. The built-in flash and support for 720p video recording are also still included, as is the HDMI output.
Samsung says that the NX5 will be available this month at around €699, which would equate to approximately £580. We suspect the NX5 will be available for less than that though, as the NX10 is currently available for £475.
