Freecom's external DVD writer is the only one here to come with a set of blank media. It also looks stylish thanks to its silver enclosure. Sadly, it's not very fast at writing DVDs.
It managed to burn single-layer DVDs at just under 9.4X which lags behind both the LG and Samsung drives. It's not very quick at burning double-layer discs either, with just over 5.5X for both types of 8.5GB disc.
The LS was much faster at writing DVD-RW discs. It was the fastest external burner in our group, and the only one to exceed 6X. When burning DVD+RW discs, however, it was the slowest external writer in the group, managing only 5.13X. It did write CD-R discs at 29.49X, though, which wasn't far behind the best.
Although Freecom's LS is fast at burning DVD-RW discs, its performance is otherwise disappointing. Samsung's Super-WriteMaster is a better external drive.
