Our Rating
Freecom's ToughDrive Sport is a portable USB hard disk with a distinctive black and red design. Its rubber casing feels sturdy, and Freecom states it can survive falls from a height of two metres.
To prevent accidental falls, the supplied carabiner allows you to hang the ToughDrive from your bag or belt. More usefully, the integrated USB cable wraps around the edges of the ToughDrive and clips securely into place when not in use.
Although it isn't as fast at copying files as Fujitsu's HandyDrive, it's still quick for a portable USB disk. Unfortunately, it's also expensive, costing 39p per gigabyte - you can buy 500GB drives for less. NTI's Shadow backup software can back up files automatically in the background while you work.
We were taken with the ToughDrive's sturdy design, but it's rather expensive. Unless you're shopping in preparation for a round-the-world trip, then Fujitsu's HandyDrive 500GB is far better value.
