Get ready to rumble with new vibrating gaming device

While everyone is winding down for the Christmas holidays, things are revving up in Las Vegas where the Consumer Electronics Show will kick off on 7th January. Expert Reviews will be there, and we're excited about testing out new gadgets and gizmos like Immerz's KOR-fx gaming device.
It's a chest-worn appliance which uses vibration to provide better immersion in games, movies or music. The way it works is that barely detectable vibrations are delivered to the upper corners of the chest and activate neural pathways that subconsciously monitor the vibrations in your chest cavity that occur naturally when speaking.
By using this resonance of the chest cavity, KOR-fx can create various sensations, such as nearby explosions in games and movies. Plus, it can create the same vibrations you'd feel at a loud concert, enhancing your enjoyment when merely listening to your favourite music.
That's the idea at least, but we'll have to try it out to find out whether the reality is as good as the theory. The US-based company is planning to launch the product in early 2010, but it's unclear how much it will cost, or whether it will even be available to buy in the UK.
Nevertheless, it's an exciting new product, and because it's platform independent, it will work whether you're playing a game on your PC, your Xbox or PS3, or watching a movie or listening to music in your living room.
As soon as we've got our hands on the pre-production sample, we'll let you know how good it is.
