Logitech introduces a laptop cushion with speakers

Logitech has announced a new laptop gadget at CES in Las Vegas: the Speaker Lapdesk N700. It's a combination of a cushion and a tray that lets you use a laptop comfortably on the sofa, in bed or even when sitting on the floor.
It's very similar to Logitech's more basic Lapdesk, but the N700 also has built-in speakers which the company claims are much higher quality than most laptop speakers.
"More and more people around the world are enjoying fantastic entertainment on their laptops — but with mediocre sound and comfort,” said Denis Pavillard, Logitech's Vice President of product marketing for laptop accessories. "In fact, according to our research nearly 50 per cent of laptop users report being dissatisfied with the sound quality of the built-in speakers. The Logitech Speaker Lapdesk N700 helps transform your laptop into a private cinema in the cosy confines of your lap."
The Speaker Lapdesk N700 has twin 2in cones which are positioned on either side of your laptop to provide a better stereo image than most laptop speakers, and according to Logitech, much more bass. They connect through a single USB cable, which is quick to detach if you want to move your laptop off the Lapdesk.
There's also a built-in fan which circulates air under your notebook, and the heat-shielding design helps keep laptop heat off your legs and lap. Plus, a grill protects the fan from dust and damage. Usefully, there are volume controls for the speakers and an on/off switch for the fan.
All this comes at a price - the N700 is expected to go on sale in the UK in March at a hefty £70. If you don't need the speakers or fan, Logitech's more basic Lapdesk costs around £20, while Belkin's equally good CushDesk costs just £12 from Play.com.
