Firebox announce Ghetto Blaster Projector

When it comes to crazy all-in-one gadgets, we thought nothing could surprise us any more. However, the MobileCinema did - as it's a techno-mongrel of mind-blowing proportions.
At first glance it looks like a classic eighties-style ghetto blaster, with the usual big speakers and macho styling. A closer look, though, reveals an LED projector , with retailer Firebox claiming it can project a screen up to 75in across. For video content you've got a choice of a DVD player or a Freeview tuner, as well as a memory card reader for photo slideshows.
Firebox touts it as a great way to watch the world cup this summer, but we have to admit we're sceptical. For starters, all the LED projectors we've seen haven't been powerful enough for use in anything but very dark conditions, so you'll have to close the curtains, or wait for night to fall if you're outside (which will be a bit late to watch the game unfortunately). In addition, portable reception for Freeview in this country is very patchy, and so you'll struggle to get a clear signal without a rooftop aerial. Finally, we'd be interested to see if the eight size C batteries can last for a whole match.
However, we'd be happy to be proved wrong, so we're hoping to take a proper look at this hair-brained device. It will be available from Firebox in March.
