Scosche tapStick review

It's a great accessory for Shuffle owners stuck with the basic Apple earphones.

The only controls on Apple's iPod Shuffle (see Labs, Shopper 263) are integrated into the provided earphones. This means you can't use better quality earphones, or even connect the Shuffle to speakers, without losing the ability to control playback and volume.
Scosche's tapStick case for the Shuffle solves this problem. It plugs into the earphone socket and replicates the remote's controls on its front, which then allows you to use any earphones you like. The Shuffle's clip remains unobstructed, but the randomisation and repeat switch are inaccessible, though you're less likely to need them now admittedly.
Despite this one fault, the tapStick is a neat accessory if you already have a Shuffle and are cursing its design. For everyone else, there are better MP3 players available, all of which come with such controls as standard.
