TomTom announces free LIVE services for a year for all new customers
Posted on 18 Feb 2010 at 14:21
Satnav device maker TomTom has announced that until Easter, all new TomTom XL LIVE and Go x50 satnavs will come with a year's free LIVE service.
TomTom LIVE services include HD Traffic, which monitors the location of mobile phone users to track traffic in real-time; TomTom Safety Alerts, which warns users about fixed and mobile safety cameras; TomTom Fuel Prices, which updates users with the latest fuel prices and points them to the cheapest petrol stations along their route; and access to Google's Local Search, which lists millions of places of interest.
TomTom LIVE devices use a Vodafone SIM to connect to TomTom's servers, hence the standard £8-per-month fee, so with this deal customers will save £96.
Customers buying a device capable of receiving the LIVE services normally get three months free, so this announcement extends that free period by another nine months. Prices range from £162 for the XL LIVE IQ Routes to £235 for the GO 950 LIVE.
