The Orbit USB's sound quality is poor compared to similarly priced and sized alternatives.

Our Rating
Altec Lansing's Orbit USB is a portable speaker designed for laptops. The captive USB cable provides power and a connection for the built-in sound card. Unfortunately, there's no 3.5mm input for MP3 players.
It feels sturdy and well-made and the USB cable handily winds around the rear when travelling. In use, a flip out stand props the Orbit up at an angle.
The Orbit sounds louder than most laptop speakers. However, it's only a mono speaker, and not stereo, which makes things sound a bit flat. Vocals and instruments sound muddy and bass is unsurprisingly weak. The similarly priced and sized Veho Mimi wireless stereo speakers are a better buy thanks to its superior audio quality.
