Excellent value and relatively quiet, this cooler kept our processor incredibly cool.

The Thermaltake Contac 29 has an eye-catching orange 120mm fan which could be appealing if you’re building a PC with a transparent side panel. Even if you’re not keen on its distinctive colour, its uncomplicated installation is a definite plus.

Attaching the necessary fittings for your processor involves four small, slightly fiddly screws, but once that’s accomplished attaching the heatsink to your motherboard is no more complicated than with a stock cooler. A second 120mm fan can be attached to the opposite side of the cooler if needed.

Although the Contac 29 only has three heatpipes, they’re much thicker than the heatpipes on other coolers with just three. Combined with the large 120mm fan, it didn’t have any trouble keeping our processor cool.

When idle, its temperature reached just 22C at a fan speed of 888rpm. When the processor was under load, its temperature reached 43 degrees with a reasonably low fan speed of 1,298rpm. Although it was very quiet, it wasn’t completely silent emitting a low whiny hum but it’s not loud enough to be intrusive. It’s our Best Buy.
