Scythe Shuriken Rev B review
Verdict:
It's not the most efficient cooler you can buy, but its low-profile design and silent operation make it a good choice for a media centre.

At just 71mm high, the Scythe Shuriken Rev B is a low profile cooler suitable for PCs short on space, such as media centres - the fan itself is a mere 7mm high. It's very quiet too, so it's well suited for use in a living room PC.
Installing the Shuriken is a snap. The fittings for your processor simply snap into place with a push. The same fittings are used for both LGA1156 and 775 processors – the pins merely slot into different positions depending on which kind of processor you have. The 92mm fan is already fitted.
There are only three heatpipes, but they're fairly thick. Unfortunately, the Shuriken didn't keep our processor as cool as other coolers we've seen. When our processor was idle, its temperature rose to 26C while the fan ran at 521rpm. Under load, the processor was a toasty 53C with the fan running at 1,623rpm.
Although it's not the coolest heatsink available, the Shuriken's low profile and silent operation make it an attractive choice for a media centre PC.
