Professional photographers use PocketWizard transceivers to wirelessly trigger off-camera flashes, but with prices from £200, they’re far too expensive for most amateurs. The iShoot PT-04C costs a tenth the price and, in our tests, worked perfectly.
Unlike other low-cost systems, which use infrared, this one is RF-based, and even worked through walls over distances of up to 10 metres.
The transmitter sits in the camera’s accessory shoe, while the receiver has two shoes for mounting flashguns, a 3.5mm jack socket for connecting to a studio flash head and a tripod thread. Triggering multiple flashes simply involves buying more receiver units (at £12 each) or using flashes with slave modes.
Build quality could be better, especially when accessing the transmitter’s battery compartment, but at this price you could just buy two and keep one as a backup.
