Ring MP:120 review

Verdict:

Slightly overpriced for the power rating, but the compact size and powered USB port make up for it

Review Date: 6 May 2010

Price when reviewed: £29

Our Rating 4 stars out of 5

The MP:120 is a compact inverter that provides a 240V mains socket in your car. Compared to other inverters we’ve seen, the MP:120 is by far the smallest. It can provide a peak of 120W, but the constant power of 100W is still plenty for most devices such as laptops and portable DVD players.

A bonus is the USB port on the side which allows you to charge any of your devices via their USB cable. This means you can still use your satnav even if your car has only one cigarette lighter socket as most charge via USB as well as their dedicated car adaptors. The small fan above the plug socket is fairly quiet, and you shouldn't notice it while the engine is running.

At £29, the MP:120 is a little expensive as you can buy 300W inverters for the same price. However, they are much bulkier, making the MP:120 a fine choice if you don't need more power.
