Is the iPad a mobile phone? Survey shows 50 per cent of people think so

According to a survey of over 1,300 people by www.myvouchercodes.co.uk, almost half of Brits believe that the iPad is a mobile phone, rather than a handheld computer. A small minority even though the launch was a new range of sanitary pads.
The study found that less than half of Brits know what the iPad is, despite the hype surrounding the tablet device. 49 per cent thought the iPad was a mobile phone, while only 41 per cent correctly identified the iPad as a tablet computer. A further one per cent said the iPad was a camera, while 0.7 per cent claimed it was a digital photo frame. Of the remaining respondents, 0.3 per cent thought the brand was branching out into feminine hygiene products and said it was ‘Apple’s range of sanitary towels’.
Despite such a large proportion wrongly identifying the new device, which is due to launch in the UK at the end of April, a staggering 81 per cent said they were interested in buying one. Of those that said the iPad was a mobile phone, 87 per cent thought it was a next generation iPhone. In fact, the fourth-generation iPhone will be launched in just a couple of months, running the iPhone OS 4.0 operating system.
The respondents were also clueless to the price of the iPad. Over a third, said they thought the iPad would cost £900 or more, when in fact it retails at $400 in the US; the equivalent of £260 pounds. Mark Pearson, Managing Director of MyVoucherCodes.co.uk commented, "Although we had suspicions that a lot of people thought the iPad was a phone, it’s incredibly surprising to see just how many actually did. As for the people that thought the launch was regarding a new range of high-tech sanitary pads, I don’t even know what to say!"
