First Look: Spore Creature Creator is fun and free
Posted on 27 Jun 2008 at 18:34
Spore is an ambitious game designed by Will Wright, the man behind such classics as SimCity and The Sims. The game is divided into five sections in which you guide a new life form through its evolution from single cell protozoa to space faring society
The Creature Creator gives you all the tools you need to design your own creature - just like those you'll be using in the latter sections of Spore. You can create a startling array of beasties from the parts supplied with the free trial version of the Creator, or you can buy the full version of the Creator, which comes with yet more options.
It's very easy to use, whether you're adjusting the spinal position, placing arms and legs, or adding eyes or antlers. Once you've created your creature you can give it a custom paint job. Then you can play with it in a limited area, giving commands to carry out a wide range of amusing actions - like dancing, jumping and roaring. It's all great fun, whatever your age.
You can upload your creations to the Spore website, or email them directly to your friends. You can download the free trial version from www.spore.com, or get the full Creature Creator for £5 from www.game.co.uk and then get the cost refunded if you buy Spore when it's released later this year. If this is any indication of the quality of the finished product, then Spore is a good candidate for game of year.
