EA backs down under pressure from Spore users

As we reported last week, EA's original policy of limiting Spore subsciptions to one user account and three installations hasn't gone down well with their users.

In response to these complaints, Maxis' Lucy Bradshaw issued an announcement on the Spore forum, saying that "You'll be able to have a total of 5 screen names tied to one main Spore account. So if you already have a Spore account and screen name, you'll be able to add 4 screen names to that account."

Meanwhile, EA's Jonathan Goddard sent us a link to a Wall Street Journal article which quotes EA's label president Frank Gibeau as saying that the SecureROM DRM system will soon be changed to allow users to install Spore on up to five machines and which will implement a system to deauthorise computers when the game in uninstalled, adding the installation credit back into your total.

The measures, which are clearly in response to pressure placed on EA by its online users, are set to be implemented in the near future and go a long way towards resolving the complaints we had about EA's original security measures.
