Craze: An alternative take on current affairs
Posted on 23 Sep 2008 at 12:03
With the US presidential race making all the headlines in the US, The Onion is conducting its own tongue-in-cheek style of election reporting.
The site offers a welcome break from the usual political coverage, featuring humorous spoof interviews with political 'experts' and a guide on how to pretend you care about the election. It doesn't limit its coverage to politics, however. It includes videos and articles on sport, education and other current affairs, plus letters to the editor and horoscopes.
Elsewhere, Uncyclopedia presents information in a very similar manner to Wikipedia. The website looks like the online encyclopaedia and contains user-generated content, but rather than being factual, the site just aims to be funny.
For example, a search for Gordon Brown will tell you that, in his free time, our Prime Minister is a socialite who can often be found partying with Paris Hilton, and it has the pictures to prove it. The website has a beginner's guide for anyone who wants to add content to a topic, and urges contributors to "be funny and not just stupid".
