Sky returns to your Virgin Media package
Posted on 7 Nov 2008 at 16:13
Virgin Media subscribers can once again watch Sky channels as part of their service, as the two companies called a truce to end their bitter dispute. Sky1, Sky2, Sky3 and Sky News will all once again be available for Virgin's customers to watch from next week.
The agreement will also see the return of Sky Sports News, Sky Arts 1, Sky Arts 2, Sky Real Lives and Sky Real Lives 2 to Virgin Media's cable TV service. The company had stopped airing Sky's channels due to disagreements over pricing, leaving seasons of high profile shows Lost and 24 mid-season.
"They were only a few channels, but they were popular ones," admitted a Virgin Media spokesperson. "Having them back gives us one of the most complete packages in the UK right now."
Sky3, Sky News and Sky Sports News will be available to all digital TV subscribers. Sky1 and Sky2 will join Virgin Media's 'L' TV package, and therefore be available to both 'L' and 'XL' subscribers, and the Sky Arts and Real Lives channels will join the 'XL' package. The changes will be made on November 13th.
Jeremy Darroch, Sky's CEO, said the move was great news for Sky and Virgin Media customers alike.
"We want our channels to be enjoyed by as many people as possible so we're delighted to secure their return to the Virgin Media platform," he said.
Virgin Media's CEO, Neil Berkett, said: "We are pleased to bring our carriage negotiations with Sky to a successful close.
